Your best story is still on mute. Let's turn it up.

We're Alexis and Reggie, two Emmy Award-winning journalists. Our superpower? Helping businesses and organizations find the stories hiding within, then making sure the right people hear them. We speak people.

Your people can't trust a story they've never heard. (And nobody has ever been moved to tears by a slide deck.)

Leaders know why the work matters. By the time it reaches everyone else, it has turned into a memo, a slogan, a slide. The people closest to the work hear the least of it. Meanwhile, the stories that would make people believe are sitting inside your organization, untold.

Your strategy is a story. If your people can't tell it, they can't carry it out.

You might need us and not know it yet.

If you've asked yourself any of these questions, it's time to talk.

  • Could your frontline people explain why your work matters, in their own words?
  • Did your last big announcement land, or did it just get sent?
  • Are your best stories stuck in a few people's heads?
  • Is your strategy clear in the boardroom and fuzzy everywhere else?
  • Do your donors, members or fans hear the same story every year?
  • Is a big change coming, like a new leader, a merger, a rebrand or a campaign?
  • Do your leaders freeze, ramble or sound scripted on camera or on stage?
  • Are your athletes getting attention but unsure what they stand for?
  • Is great work happening that nobody outside the building knows about?
  • Do you need someone who can hold the room at your next big event?

Sound familiar? Let's find your story.

Let's talk

Mind the Story Gap. It's the distance between the story your leaders can tell and the story your people can tell.

Leaders and their people answer the same questions. We measure on day one, do the work, and measure again on day 90, right next to a number you already track. It's our signature tool, and it's included in every retainer.

  • Know

Can people say why the work matters?

  • Believe

Do they think it's true where they sit?

  • Tell

Can they tell a real story that shows it?

  • Find

What story is nobody telling yet? (This is our favorite part.)

Research shows that storytelling changes how our brains work and how we think. What it doesn't prove is that a storytelling program raises a business number on its own. Your people hold the results you need, and that's exactly why we measure every client's Story Gap, before and after.

Two voices. One story. For once, the story is ours.

We're a husband-and-wife team who met at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. Between us: nearly three decades in newsrooms and thousands of stories told across the country. Along the way, we realized the thing we do best isn't just reporting the news. It's finding the stories hiding inside people and organizations. We built I Speak People to help businesses, organizations, leaders and brands uncover their stories, find their why, and build connection and trust.

Turns out when you speak people, people talk.

The talks

Alexis's signature keynote

Undeniable: Uncover Your Story. Unlock Theirs.

Stop looking the part. Start living the story.

For the champions everyone leans on. A reporter's tools for finding what you've been leaving out, saying what's true plainly, then using the same tools to bring out the best in your people.

Reggie's signature keynote

Out of Bounds

Deeper than what happens on the field.

Reggie goes past the highlights and the final score to the stories that connect and teach: what athletes, coaches and teams carry with them, and what the rest of us can learn from it.

Alexis

Community Is Currency

Trust is built in the community long before it shows up on the bottom line.

How leaders and organizations earn trust by showing up for their communities, and why those relationships keep paying off long after the campaign ends.

I Speak People: The Translation Skill AI Can't Replace

Stop making your audience translate.

Why the most human skill in any room is saying it so people get it the first time, and how to turn strategy into stories your people can repeat.

The Story Is Already in the Room

Stop telling the same stories. Start finding new ones.

How to listen like a reporter: the question after the question, and the stories your people are already living.

When the Story Changes

Tell the story of change so people stay with you.

A new leader, a merger, a rebrand, a campaign. How to tell the story of change before the rumor mill does.

Formats: keynote, half-day workshop, 90-day program, emcee and moderator. Ideal for: leadership conferences, women's leadership, ERGs, associations, faith communities, universities and athletic programs.
